Scleral Lenses
Scleral lenses are custom-made, large diameter gas permeable contact lenses. They are designed to vault over the cornea and rest on the white of the eye known as the sclera. Scleral lenses are filled with non-preserved saline known as a tear reservoir which creates a healthy environment for the cornea. Because of these factors, scleral lenses offer more stability with more comfortable and crisper vision compared to other contact lens modalities. These lenses are for anyone, and especially utilized for individuals with:
- Irregular corneas or corneal scarring
- Keratoconus
- Post-surgical from corneal transplants or LASIK complications
- Dry eyes
- Typically difficult-to-fit eyes.
